Leveraging SQL’s Inherent Hierarchical Processing
SQLfX® utilizes ANSI SQL’s ability to perform powerful hierarchical processing by fully understanding this amazing natural process and working with it to fully exploit it. SQLfX® knows how to interface with SQL’s inherent hierarchical processing capability to control it and it knows how to interpret the hierarchically processed structure stored in the relational result for automatic and correct hierarchical structured XML output semantics. Leveraging Natural Semantics in Data Structures Today the goldmine of free hierarchical semantics in XML data structures is not being utilized. SQLfX® enables the automatic use this powerful meta information by the customer’s SQL processor for processing complex multi-leg queries without requiring procedural coding or navigation by the user. It enables non procedural coding without knowledge of the structure by the user.
Leveraging Hierarchical Syntax and Semantics in SQL SQLfX® also further utilizes SQL’s hierarchical syntax and semantics. SQL standard join syntax allows logical and physical structures to be hierarchically modeled directly in SQL. This hierarchical standard SQL join syntax can be stored statically in views or executed dynamically at runtime to interactively join full hierarchical structures easily. The semantics associated with hierarchical data modeling syntax specifies the hierarchical operation to be carried out by the SQL processing engine. This hierarchical data modeling syntax with its associated hierarchical semantics is directly executable by the relational engine guaranteeing efficient and accurate hierarchical processing. Hierarchical joining of hierarchical views is performed naturally in standard SQL by its standard view expansion process which automatically creates a unified structure. When all views are expanded, a single unified virtual view has been created. This natural operation further leverages the automatic qualities of this powerful syntax and its semantics. These views can consist of heterogeneous SQL views representing the hierarchical data modeling of relational and XML. So the expanded view is also a seamless unified virtual heterogeneous view.
